Staying Focused...

So for the last 6 months I have been having a hard time staying focused.  I usually blame it on the fact that I have too much going on…show chair, working to become a certified judge, creating a webpage, dyeing fabric (otherwise known as creating an inventory), plus other business duties, not to mention running the household and mother duties.  An excuse, not a solution.  So my solution, add to the list and buy a new, very large tool…a long arm.  While I have played on a few of them in the past, I don't know much about them.  Since, I'm using it for my business and not to create a business (in other words, I'm not going to quilt for others), it lessens some of the information I need to learn.  I do have a new stack of reading material.

To get back to the subject on hand, staying focused… I know the timing was not great, but the opportunity was too good to pass up.  Now, to make it work, I need to stay focused and set some goals.  It is going to take me a while to learn the long arm because I can't spend all my time reading and running the machine.  I have set a goal of working on the long arm, whether reading or actually running it, an hour a day.  I have goals for my judging and other duties, as well.  Making daily lists help translate that in do-able units or tasks.   I know that I will need to be flexible and make adjustments, but just having the goals are helping me stay on target, so far.

    Helpful Hints:

I love using leader/ enders when I am chain piecing.  It was an idea from Bonnie Hunter.  Instead of using a scrap piece of material in between chains, use two small blocks.  You can work on two project projects at once!  I keep a pile of 2" scrap squares next to my machine for this reason...Happy piecing!
