Judging
While judging quilts acknowledges accomplishments and encourages quilters, it also helps move the art of quilting forward. I find judging quilt shows to be a rewarding way to promote quilting and help quilters along their journey. I appreciate judges' comments, the "pat on the back" for techniques done well, and the considerate mention of an area requiring improvement.
Shortly after I starting quilting, I was asked to help develop a local quilt show. During that show, I was lucky enough to scribe for a judge. Not only did I learn a lot from the experience, but I began to wonder about the process and what makes a quilt a "winner." Winning quilts not only have wonderful workmanship but best utilize design principles to realize their design. I have judged shows independently and as a member of a team. I am a member of the National Association Certified Quilt Judges (NACQJ). I would love to help your guild or group with judging a show, contest or challenge! Please contact me for availability. |
