So in the process of basting 4 large quilts, I ran out of safety pins. Since my daughter and I were out running errands, I let her decide between the craft store or usual fabric store. That resulted in a long stop at the craft store and me buying an off brand of safety pins. Not a problem until I got back on task and tried to use them to baste the quilt. They wouldn’t go through the fabric. #!@%!* Not wanting to throw away boxes unused pins and start over, I decided I when try to sharpen and use them. All it took was running the point of the safety pin down a course nail file. Like magic, the pins were gliding through the fabric. 300 pins later, I think it’s time for a new nail file!
Helpful Hints:I love using leader/ enders when I am chain piecing. It was an idea from Bonnie Hunter. Instead of using a scrap piece of material in between chains, use two small blocks. You can work on two project projects at once! I keep a pile of 2" scrap squares next to my machine for this reason...Happy piecing!
